Permafrost

Klogeks Icelands

Far within the depths of the ice lands, pools of waters were frozen solid. There was no vegetation for hundreds of miles. It was just barren ice as far as the eye could see. But it was here, beneath hundredths of miles of hoarfrost, that the Uundii isolated themselves from the rest of the world. Uundii were lanky beings. Filled with cold blood, their skin was as pale as the frost that encompassed them. The same whiteness in their eyes showered the color of their long hair.

In their bastion, one sat gracefully, alone. His head rested upon his frozen fist. One of his brethren walked within his presence.

“My lord? We’ve found it.”

Yzaltus slowly opened his eyes.

‘Finally. The turn of this war,” he whispered.

Yzaltus, leader of the Uundii, wollowed in his chair of perpetual rime. His eyes were always closed as he thought heavily about the outcome of Balmora and those who called these lands home.

“My lord. The council has been called as you’ve requested.”

Yzaltus stood from his chair. He was accompanied by two others as they walked to a secluded section of the fortress. They came upon a sealed door with strange symbols. Yzaltus whispered a few unknown words and the door slowly opened. Inside revealed a meeting hall; a circle in shape. A large table sat in the middle while six chairs surrounded its outer area. Yzaltus took his place at the largest chair. Five other Uundii followed in. They all entered and found their appropriate places. There was a silence throughout the room as they all waited for Yzaltus to speak. He looked up and surveyed them all.

“You all have been called here at the threat,” he said, before he was interjected.

“A threat of what?” one of them asked.

“The threat of war. We are all that remain of the Uundii. During Alavus Tal-na, our brethren chose to fight alongside a monster that not only threaten the existence of humanity but the existence of us all.”

“Mordeus was a monster, yes, but humans are no better. Why should we care what happens to them?”

Others began to agree with the outburst.

“This world exists and thrives because there is an order, a balance. When that balance is altered so too will the coexistence we have come to know.”

“Is there undoubtedly a threat of war? I do not believe these lands will endure such another terrible tragedy.”

“Yes. War is inevitable. As we speak, a creature known as Vorkalth seeks the entrance to the Hell of the Promised and I fear he will soon find it.”

“The stronghold of the Unhallowed Order. But why?”

“We do not know. But that fortress, if found, could contain secrets capable of destroying this world.”

“What do you suggest, my lord?”

Yzaltus paused for a moment before he spoke once more.

“I have seen the effects war has had on these lands. I chose not to interfere during Alavus Tal-na and we nearly lost this world to Mordeus. I will not allow this to happen again. Peace is no longer an option. We must prepare as we usher in a new era.
